Bulletin No 3, Thursday April 21st 2022
Today we have been doing some final checks on the airfield, the audio and the ability of the local 3G cell to provide a good NTP sync… everything has been going swimmingly and we thought we would make a more technical note in this newsletter.
Once in the field we decided to take a couple of static photos so that you could see how beautiful El Prado and Sierra de Guadarrama were when our plan was diverted to something much more interesting.
During the photo session a car came along and the driver, Juan (grandson, 20), and his passenger D. Hilario got out of the car.
Hilario asked us what we were doing there and that he and his family had been renting the land for grazing for a long time?
After giving him full explanations of our authorised activity, Mr. Hilario explained to us that his family had been renting the land for grazing for a long time. Mr. Hilario explained to us that his main concern was that the cars did not destroy the land, and then he looked at my model…
And it didn’t take long for me to offer him a demonstration flight, which he was very satisfied with. Once on the ground, we started to talk.
Hilario, “92 years old in January”, told us that the Prado was a flying field during the Civil War. He was 6 years old at the time and that there, where the fronton is now, there was a field where at Sunday mass they used to put an aeroplane as an altar and that children like him used to parade with “their Falangist uniform and a rifle on their shoulders”.
What a pleasure to see his joyful face as he recalled his childhood moments!
He told us more stories, like when they shot down a “Czech pilot” in the vicinity and how the drainage works of the camp were done or the bombing of Cantalejo and an accident with civilians after the war …

As you may have seen in the photos, the field was a boiling grill of thermals with the intermittent sunshine we had. Here is the record of one of the easiest and most endearing flights I have ever enjoyed in my life while listening to Mr. Hilario’s explanations.
Well, while we are here, I would like to remind you that there are still some pilots pending payment of the registration fee and that in a couple of days we will send you the bulletin that should have been sent out today.

Hoy hemos estado haciendo unas comprobaciones finales en el campo de vuelo, el audio y la capacidad de la célula local 3G de suministrar una buena sincronización NTP… todo ha ido a las mil maravillas y pensábamos hacer una nota más técnica en este boletín.
Una vez en el campo decidimos hacer un par de fotos estáticas, para que vierais qué bonito estaba El Prado y la Sierra de Guadarrama, cuando nuestro plan se vio desviado por algo mucho más interesante.
Durante la sesión de fotos vino un coche del que se bajaron el conductor, Juan (20, su nieto), y su pasajero D. Hilario.
D. Hilario nos preguntó qué estábamos haciendo allí ya que él y su familia eran arrendatarios de ese terreno para pastoreo desde hacía mucho tiempo…
Después de darle cumplidas explicaciones de nuestra, autorizada, actividad. D. Hilario nos explica que su mayor preocupación es que los coches no destruyan el terreno y entonces se fija en mi modelo…
Y poco me hizo falta para ofrecerle un vuelo de demostración del que quedó muy satisfecho. Ya en tierra empezamos a conversar.
Hilario, 92 años, “cumplidos ya en enero”, nos contó que el Prado fue un campo de vuelo en la Guerra Civil. El tenía 6 años por entonces y donde ahora está el frontón se hacía la misa de los Domingos con un avión como altar y que los niños como él “desfilaban con su uniforme de falangista y un fusil al hombro”.
¡Que placer ver su cara de alegría al recordar sus momentos de niñez!
Nos contó más historias, como cuando derribaron a un “piloto checo” en las inmediaciones y de cómo se hicieron las obras de drenaje del campo o del bombardeo de Cantalejo y de un accidente que hubo con civiles después de la contienda …

D. Hilario está muy cordialmente invitado a nuestra competición y si es posible a entregar los premios a los ganadores y a la del año que viene!!.
Como habréis visto en las fotos, el campo era una parrilla que hervía de térmicas con el sol intermitente que teníamos. Aquí os pongo el registro de uno de los vuelos más fáciles y entrañables que he podido disfrutar en mi vida mientras escuchaba las explicaciones de D. Hilario.
Y bien, ya que estamos aquí, recordaros que quedan todavía algunos pilotos pendientes del pago de inscripción y que en un par de días os mandaremos el boletín que tenía que haber salido hoy.
